Royal Gorge Park
The Royal Gorge park is a place of stunning beauty and home to the one of the must-see attractions in Colorado, the Royal Gorge Bridge. The Royal Gorge Park is 5,000 acres and surrounds this unusual geological wonder deeded to Cañon City in 1906. When it opened on December 8, 1929, the Royal Gorge Bridge was the “world’s highest suspension bridge.”
The park was rebuilt in 2014. The makeover of the park includes a new gondola system and a zip line that crosses the gorge. A wonderful new children’s play area that boasts a splash pad, a carousel, and climbing structures. For more information about the park visit www.royalgorgebridge.com
The Skycoaster is an adrenaline rush where you are strapped in and lifted 100 feet above the base and released to free fall 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River.
Whitewater rafting through the Royal Gorge on the Arkansas River offers an exciting adventure for all levels of rafters. There are several rafting companies in the area.
